Fine Silver and Gold Keum Boo Carved Crescent Moon Pendant
This charming crescent moon is composed of fine silver and 24 k gold leaf, applied using the ancient Korean art of Keum Boo. Keum Boo is an ancient Korean technique for applying 24k gold leaf to silver. The fine gold leaf is carefully burnished onto hot fine silver, permanently bonding itself to the silver.
The pendant was first formed from a handcarved wax crescent moon. A mold was then made of the wax moon and then precios metal clay was used to form the moon.
Precious metal clay is a soft, moldable clay composed of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder, allowing for delicate detail and tactile shaping. When the piece is fired, the binder burns away, leaving behind a solid fine silver pendant that preserves the original carving’s subtle details.
Suspended from an 18” 14k gold fill chain. A 3” extender can be added upon request at checkout.
